The Ijumu Local Government Area chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has rejected recent claims that their 2024 gubernatorial candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, was suspended due to alleged anti-party activities. In a statement released on Friday, PDP Chairman for Ijumu Local Government Council, Olorunmaiye Olabode, vehemently denied the allegations, labeling the suspension reports as a fabrication orchestrated by external adversaries.
According to the statement, the purported suspension was the work of those hostile to the party, and the document in question was a forgery lacking legitimacy. The PDP leadership in Ijumu asserted that the individuals behind the suspension lacked the authority to take such actions against a prominent party member like Melaye.
The statement outlined that no materials were provided for the Ward Ad Hoc Congress held on July 27, 2024, and that no Local Government Area (LGA) Congress occurred in Ijumu to elect a National Delegate. It also criticized the State Congress held in Lokoja on August 31, 2024, as an illegitimate event.
The local PDP officials accused these alleged saboteurs of attempting to destabilize the party by targeting Melaye, who they described as a key figure in the party and a supporter of party initiatives. They pointed out Melaye's contributions, including financing party operations, purchasing membership cards, and donating substantial funds.
The statement concluded by urging party members in Ijumu and across Kogi State to disregard the fabricated expulsion notice, affirming their commitment to party principles and support for Melaye. The local PDP chapter reiterated that the suspension claims are baseless and part of a broader scheme to undermine the party’s unity and leadership.
