A tragic gas explosion has claimed the lives of a couple, identified as Chioma and George, in the capital of Ebonyi State. The incident, which occurred shortly after the couple moved into their new residence, has left the community in shock.
The Ebonyi State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the fatalities on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Ukandu dispelled earlier rumors suggesting that the explosion was caused by a dynamite or inverter battery.
"Preliminary investigations indicate it was a gas explosion that tragically claimed the lives of Chioma and George, although further investigations are still ongoing," Ukandu stated.
Chioma reportedly died five days after the explosion, while George succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, September 11, at the hospital. The explosion has left neighbors and community members grieving, with many expressing shock at the incident, which happened only days after the couple moved into their new home.
Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the blast.
