A Nigerian man who sold all his properties to relocate with his family to Canada is now grappling with severe poverty, contrary to the hopes of finding a better life abroad.
Canadian sound engineer, Eric St-Pierre, shared the heart-wrenching story on social media platform X, revealing the plight of his Nigerian colleague who moved to Canada seeking greener pastures. Instead, the man and his family now live in harsh conditions, struggling to make ends meet.
According to Eric, the man’s income barely covers rent, forcing him to go without food so his children can eat. His wife, who initially planned to care for their children, has also been compelled to join the workforce out of necessity.
In a detailed post, Eric described the disillusionment his colleague feels, stating, “The Canadian economy is so bad that newly arrived immigrants, like my Nigerian colleague, are regretting their decision. He spent his life savings to move here, only to find that his wage barely covers rent. Back in Nigeria, his income supported the entire family."
The post highlights the economic challenges faced by many immigrants, with rising costs of living in Canada and the inability to return home after investing everything in the move. Many like him are discovering that the so-called greener pastures come with harsh realities.
The story has sparked debate on social media, with users discussing the struggles immigrants face in the current economic climate in Canada.
He wrote;
“Suddenly he realized that his wage was only enough to cover his rent. Back home his income was enough to care of the entire family. He spent his first months here starving so his wife and kids could eat.
“Now his wife needs to work out of necessity instead of focusing on raising their kids. Now distraught both him and his wife are regretting coming here. Worst yet they can’t afford to return, they spent their life savings to live in Canada.
“Stories like these are all too common thanks to the Liberals morally bankrupt policies. Our economy is literally a ponzi scheme preying on newcomers to artificially inflate real estate and rent prices.”
