The Oko Baba plank market in Ebute Metta, Lagos State, is currently engulfed in a severe fire, prompting immediate action from local emergency services.
The fire, which reportedly began early on Sunday, has quickly spread to adjacent shanties, causing extensive damage across the area. Eyewitness Adedeji Olalekan, using the handle #Stylomedia on X, shared real-time updates, describing the scene as “all the shanties are burning.”
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) spokesperson Nosa Okunbor confirmed the incident, stating that the LASEMA Response Team, alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are actively engaged in search and rescue operations.
Okunbor provided the following update: “The LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are on-site at Oko Baba plank market by Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, working to control the blaze and assist those affected.”
