Nigerian actress Eniola Badmus has ignited a flurry of reactions after sharing her analysis of the Tinubu administration's impact on Nigeria’s economy. In a recent Instagram post, Badmus, who has recently taken up the role of Special Assistant to House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, praised the current administration's economic performance.
Badmus highlighted what she described as a significant improvement in Nigeria's trade balance, noting a reduction in imports and an increase in exports. She contrasted the present economic indicators with those of the previous administration, presenting figures that underscore a purported expansion of the economy.
In her post, Badmus stated, “Our imports are reducing, and our exports are increasing. This indicates that our economy is expanding. For the year-to-date 2024, our imports were N24.44 trillion, while our exports reached N38.59 trillion. This has resulted in an unprecedented trade surplus of over N14 trillion within just eight months. Such a development is unprecedented in Nigeria and marks a significant shift from consumption to production.”
The actress’s optimistic view has drawn mixed responses, with some praising the administration’s progress while others remain skeptical of the claims.
