Dangote Refinery has sharply criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) over claims that they purchased fuel from the refinery at N898 per litre. The refinery's response, made public on Sunday, September 15, 2024, labels the allegations as “misleading and mischievous.”
Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Company, issued a statement refuting the claims made by NNPCL spokesperson Mr. Olufemi Soneye. According to Chiejina, the statement was designed to undermine recent achievements in addressing Nigeria's energy challenges.
Chiejina urged Nigerians to await a formal announcement on fuel pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, which is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2024. The committee was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
He further clarified that the pricing was presented in dollars, reflecting savings compared to current import costs. Chiejina assured that Dangote Refinery remains committed to ensuring a steady supply of quality petroleum products and eradicating fuel scarcity across the country.
In response to Soneye’s remarks, which included an assertion that the initial loading price from Dangote Refinery was N898 per litre, Chiejina’s statement emphasizes the discrepancy between reported figures and the refinery's actual practices.
