The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two political thugs during an overnight raid in various locations across Edo State. This was disclosed in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, September 21, as part of efforts to curb electoral violence ahead of the upcoming elections.
According to the statement, three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols and one locally made gun were recovered from the suspects. The individuals, identified as 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, were arrested following a tip-off.
"Obanor, who led an armed group, was apprehended at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 p.m., while Tajudeen was captured in Igara Akoko, Edo, both on the eve of the election," Adejobi said.
The operation underscores the ongoing security measures being enforced to ensure a peaceful election process in the state. Adejobi reaffirmed the police's commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that any attempts to incite violence during the elections will not be tolerated.
