In a closely watched contest at Polling Unit 11, Ward 06, Oredo Local Government Area, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, secured victory over his Labour Party (LP) rival, Olumide Akpata. Ighodalo garnered 41 votes, while Akpata trailed with 32 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, finished third with 19 votes.
Earlier on Saturday, Ighodalo had confidently predicted a landslide victory in the ongoing Edo State governorship election. Urging voters to come out in large numbers, he expressed concerns over reports of election malpractice, particularly from APC members.
"We will win this election by a landslide and move our state forward by God’s grace. We are aware of some APC members involved in shenanigans, trying to buy votes for ₦15,000 to ₦20,000 and attempting to subvert the process," Ighodalo stated.
Meanwhile, Olumide Akpata, who cast his vote earlier in the day, described his voting experience as seamless. He expressed hope that all voters across the state would enjoy the same smooth process at the polling stations.
