The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for a full investigation into alleged bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), following claims by popular social media influencer, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.
Gistmania had earlier reported that Bobrisky alleged that after being sentenced to six months in prison, his “godfather” arranged for him to serve the sentence in a private apartment, through collusion with the Controller General of NCS.
He also claimed that N10 million was demanded for the arrangement.
Bobrisky stated that when he was sentenced, his godfather immediately assured him that he wouldn’t serve his term in prison.
According to him, the arrangement involved securing an apartment close to the prison where he would stay until the sentence was completed.
He alleged that this plan was executed after the Controller General of NCS and other officials were bribed.
In response to the revelation, the Minister issued a stern warning, emphasizing that any form of indiscipline or corruption within paramilitary services under his ministry would be met with severe consequences.
He assured the public that a special investigative team led by Dr Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, will rigorously probe the matter.
The minister further reiterated the Ministry of Interior’s core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability, adding that any personnel found guilty of these allegations would face the full weight of the law.
He emphasized that the investigation would be transparent, impartial, and thorough, aiming to restore public trust in the Nigerian Correctional Service.
