Troops of the Nigerian Army's 6 Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, have deactivated a major illegal oil refining operation in Bayelsa State, seizing massive quantities of stolen petroleum products.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, it was confirmed that two large metal tanks, containing over 30,000 litres of stolen oil, were discovered and seized during the operation.
The troops also dismantled two active illegal refining sites in the Diebu creek area of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The operation yielded the recovery of three drums, five boats, and an additional 4,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.
Further raids in creeks around Tobo, Obotoro, Arugba, and Okegbene in Southern Ijaw led to the seizure of nine drums and six wooden boats holding more than 15,000 litres of illegally refined oil.
Additionally, two illegal pipeline connection points were identified by troops near an Agip facility at Idu Wellhead 4, equipped with 200 meters of nylon hose used to siphon oil.
The army's crackdown on illegal refining operations in the region is part of ongoing efforts to curb oil theft and protect national resources.
