In the early hours of Saturday, militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a devastating attack on Geidam town in Yobe State, killing one resident and causing widespread destruction. The assault, which began around 3:30 a.m., saw the insurgents storm the town, firing explosives indiscriminately and terrorizing residents, according to multiple sources.
Intelligence reports obtained by counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama revealed that the attackers targeted and destroyed properties, including two vehicles belonging to Nigerian Customs officials, which were set ablaze.
In a disturbing act of desecration, the militants also set fire to the grave of Khalifah Ayiloma in Kolori Ward, further adding to the chaos. The home of 60-year-old Dahiru Muhammadu, a night watchman stationed near Geidam Polytechnic, was also attacked. Muhammadu was shot in the neck and rushed to Geidam Specialist Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
This attack is the latest in a series of assaults by ISWAP in the region, as the insurgents continue their campaign of violence and destruction in northeastern Nigeria.
