Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, as a gesture of appreciation for their transparency. This donation follows an earlier pledge of ₦20 million made to the hospital and 15 other institutions.
During a visit to the hospital over the weekend, Obi revealed that he had accidentally overpaid the institution by ₦2.5 million while redeeming his initial pledge. The hospital’s management promptly informed him of the overpayment, prompting him to make an additional donation of ₦10 million in recognition of their honesty.
Speaking at the event, Obi emphasized his commitment to supporting health and educational institutions across Anambra State. “Today, in furtherance of my unwavering commitment to critical and measurable areas of development—health, education, and lifting people out of poverty—I visited Our Lady of Lourdes College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala. I am pleased to see the positive outcomes of our ongoing support,” he said.
Obi added that the additional donation reflects his appreciation for the integrity displayed by the hospital. Earlier this year, he had pledged ₦20 million to 16 medical institutions, including Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, to support their efforts in healthcare delivery.
Rev. Fr. Onuorah Ugochukwu, CEO of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, shared how Obi had initially overpaid the hospital’s nursing school by ₦2.5 million. "When I contacted him about the error, he was pleased with the integrity shown, and today he is here again with an additional donation," Fr. Ugochukwu said.
Obi also announced that other institutions that reported similar overpayments would receive an additional ₦10 million each. The former governor used the occasion to emphasize the importance of transparency and integrity in all sectors.
This latest donation reinforces Peter Obi’s ongoing efforts to support health and education initiatives, key pillars of his commitment to improving the lives of people in Anambra State.
