In a solemn ceremony held at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC) headquarters at Abalti Barracks in Surulere, Lagos, five retired Major Generals were celebrated on Friday as they concluded their decades-long service to the nation. The event, attended by fellow military personnel, family members, and honored guests, marked the official "pulling out" of the distinguished officers, each having served over three decades in the Nigerian Army.

Major General Omotomilola Akintade, serving as the reviewing officer, delivered a poignant farewell address on behalf of his retiring colleagues. Reflecting on their journey, Akintade spoke of the challenges, commitment, and resilience that marked their years in the military, from their days as young officers at the Nigerian Defence Academy to reaching the rank of Major General. He expressed gratitude for the honor of a valedictory parade, calling it “a day of nostalgic memories, genuine thankfulness, and unwavering contentment.”

Akintade praised the NAOC for its role in their professional development, saying, “The corps has nurtured us from novices to true professionals and outstanding leaders.” He also encouraged current service members to remain dedicated, uphold loyalty, and adhere to the principles enshrined in their Oath of Allegiance.

Noting the nation's current security challenges, Akintade emphasized the importance of integrity in duty, urging personnel to avoid actions that could harm the Nigerian Army’s reputation. He further encouraged them to serve with total commitment to Nigeria’s peace and stability, steering clear of political bias.

In his remarks, Akintade expressed his appreciation to Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja and past leaders for their guidance and commitment to a vibrant Ordnance Corps capable of supporting the Nigerian Army in all circumstances. He extended gratitude to families and especially to spouses, describing them as “the silent heroes” for their sacrifices and unyielding support throughout their service years. He concluded with a tribute to fallen comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice, urging continued prayers for the families they left behind.

The ceremony, organized by Corps Commander Maj. Gen. Jonathan Ugwuoke, celebrated the five generals’ lifelong dedication, symbolizing not only the end of their military service but their enduring legacy within the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps.
