Popular singer Timaya, has opened up about the lack of genuine friendships in the country’s music industry.
During an interview with Channels TV, he explained, “Your colleagues are not your friends na.
The only person who wants to see you better than them is your father o, your parents.”
Timaya commented on the nature of collaboration in the industry, saying, “If Adidas can collaborate with Gucci, then what are you talking about? Collaboration, I said it a long time ago, ‘collabo follow for promo.’” He added that sometimes artists don’t even show up for video shoots after a collaboration, and fees are often required to feature other artists, which he believes is “killing the music and creativity.” There has never been love in the music industry - Timaya
Reflecting on changes in the industry, Timaya said, “Times have changed, you can’t blame them. Old ways cannot open new doors. There’s a lot going on. There are also tendencies to be vindictive towards colleagues that did you wrong.” He acknowledged that this has led to strained relationships, adding, “There has never been love in the music industry, na normal thing. It’s just like in an office, there’s competition na. It’s a normal.”
