A tragic incident in Igburowo town, located in the Odigbo council area of Ondo State, has led to the reported suicide of 58-year-old Omolayo Bamidele, a father of four. Authorities suggest the act may have stemmed from a heated disagreement with family members.
According to sources, Bamidele ingested a toxic chemical, believed to be Sniper, in a desperate act that followed an argument. Police investigations revealed that some family members have been summoned for questioning regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Witnesses reported that Bamidele had threatened to end his life shortly after the confrontation with his family. His lifeless body was later discovered on a main road connecting the community to a nearby farm settlement, raising concerns among local residents.
An octogenarian resident first alerted the community to the tragedy around 10:30 AM after spotting the deceased’s body on the dusty road. Other residents quickly gathered at the scene, where it was revealed that Bamidele had left home early that morning, shortly after the family dispute.
Though no suicide note was located either in his residence or on his person, investigators found a container of Sniper behind his body. Police from the Ore area command were called to the scene, where they recovered the body and transported it to the morgue at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital in Ore. A pair of sandals was found nearby, and Bamidele’s mobile phone was reportedly ringing in his pocket at the time of the recovery.
As the investigation unfolds, police spokesperson Funmi Odunlami confirmed the incident, stating, “The police are aware of the report of suicide, but we do not have details of what led to it.” She emphasized that ongoing inquiries would seek to clarify the circumstances leading up to this tragic event.
