Oladotun Olakanle, Chairman of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos, has passed away at the age of 54. Reports confirm that Olakanle died on Saturday, just days after attending the burial of the late All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Dr. Adesola Taiwo, on October 31, 2024.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing it as both a personal and collective tragedy. In his condolence message, Sanwo-Olu remarked, "On behalf of my family, the people, and the Lagos State Government, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the residents of Onigbongbo LCDA. His death is a personal loss to me and a painful loss to his council and Lagos State.”
Sanwo-Olu praised Olakanle’s dedication to the APC, noting that the chairman was a “loyal politician and an invaluable asset” to the party. "There is no doubt he will be missed by the entire political class, particularly the Onigbongbo LCDA, the Lagos APC family, and the State as a whole," Sanwo-Olu stated.
Olakanle’s tenure as Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA was marked by his commitment to community development, with Sanwo-Olu acknowledging his positive contributions and lasting impact on the council’s growth. "He would be remembered for creating a lasting legacy," the governor said, "and for his positive contributions to the growth and development of the Onigbongbo LCDA."
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by praying for Olakanle’s eternal rest and offering comfort to his family and the people of Onigbongbo LCDA. The statement was shared via Sanwo-Olu's official X (formerly Twitter) account, resonating with many who mourn the respected chairman’s sudden passing.
