The Dangote Refinery has firmly denied claims circulating on Friday that it sells petrol at prices between N1,015 and N1,028 per litre. Some oil marketers had suggested that the refinery's fuel price exceeded that of imported petrol, which reportedly had a landing cost of N978.01 per litre as of October 31, 2024.
In response to these allegations, Dangote Group labeled the information as "fake news" in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday. This statement followed reports by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), which claimed that fuel sourced from the Dangote Refinery was priced higher than imported alternatives.
IPMAN’s National Assistant Secretary, Yakubu Suleiman, voiced these concerns during an appearance on Arise Television’s *Morning Show*, indicating that IPMAN members would source fuel from locations where they could secure lower prices and maintain profit margins. "Our members are mindful of Nigerians’ interests," Suleiman added, emphasizing that affordability remains a priority.
The Dangote Group's swift dismissal of these reports highlights ongoing tensions within the oil sector regarding pricing, sourcing, and the impact on consumers amid fluctuating global fuel costs.
