The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Sunday through Tuesday, advising residents to take precautions due to dust haze and potential thunderstorms.
In a weather outlook issued on Saturday, NiMet anticipated light dust haze with localized visibility between 2 km and 5 km in northern Nigeria on Sunday, coupled with sunny skies and occasional cloud patches. The agency also projected slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states in the morning hours, with prospects of moderate rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening across southern states, including Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Lagos.
For Monday, NiMet foresees a continuation of slight dust haze in northern Nigeria. Sunny skies with sparse cloud cover are expected in the North Central region, while isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall may occur along the southern coast in the afternoon and evening.
On Tuesday, NiMet expects persistent slight dust haze in the northern region and clear sunny skies with cloud patches over North Central. In the southern regions, partly cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains are forecasted for coastal areas during the afternoon and evening.
NiMet also urged the public to take caution as dust particles may aggravate respiratory conditions, advising individuals with asthma or other respiratory issues to stay protected. Strong winds may accompany thunderstorms in affected areas, and NiMet recommended airline operators seek airport-specific weather updates for effective operational planning.
