A devastating fire incident occurred Saturday night in Aba, Abia State, affecting three independent radio stations — Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM.
The fire, which destroyed electronic broadcasting equipment valued at millions, took place in a shared building off Margret Avenue along the PZ axis of Aba-Owerri Road in Aba North Local Government Area.
Although the Abia State Fire Service responded swiftly and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, the stations sustained severe damage, with all broadcasting equipment destroyed. Thankfully, there were no casualties, but the stations have been left temporarily out of service due to the extensive losses.
Enyimba TV and Radio Limited, the parent company of the three stations, stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. According to a staff member, the blaze allegedly started in the television section of the mother station before spreading to the sister radio stations.
In response to the incident, the management announced a temporary shutdown to assess the extent of the damage and implement precautionary measures to prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, an Abia State Fire Service official urged owners of large companies and factories to equip their premises with fire extinguishers and hydrants to help control potential fires swiftly.
