Equatorial Guinea’s government dismisses Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), amid a scandal that has put the country on global recognition.

This came following the release of over 400 explicit videos showing Baltasar involved with several high-profile women, including wives of prominent officials.
The tapes, which spread widely online, revealed Engonga engaging in romantic affairs with his brother’s wife, the wife of the vice president, and the wife of the inspector general of police, among others.

In a statement, the government formalized Engonga’s dismissal through Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4, citing “alleged misconduct in office” and behaviour deemed “incompatible with public office.”

“According to Real Equatorial Guinea, the dismissal of Mr. Engonga, the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo (current president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa, CEMAC), was formalised in Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4.

“The decree cited Mr. Engonga’s alleged misconduct in office and his family-related and social behavior as incompatible with public office,” the government said in a statement.

Engonga is notably the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo, the current president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).

Before his dismissal, Equatorial Guinea’s First Lady, Mrs. Constancia Mangue de Obiang reacted to the scandal and called for urgent government action to safeguard the dignity of Equatoguinean women in the digital age.
