A lady has taken to the X platform to open up on why she left the banking sector despite being the breadwinner of the family to sell guinea fowl.

According to her, she was not okay doing a routine job because of the lack of flexibility.

In a blunt and unfiltered post, she cited discomfort with industry expectations, ethical conflicts, and a lack of personal fulfilment.

The ex-banker expressed her unease with certain pressures within the profession, particularly the implied expectation to seeecure big clients through personal connections, even suggesting that some colleagues resort to intimate relationships to meet targets.

She highlighted her own boundaries, stating, “I may consider sleeping with a rich man if he’s going to invest in my business heavily, but sleeping with customers just so you can bring in money for the bank sounds weird to me.”

She further explained that she had initially entered the banking field under pressure from family and friends but soon realized it was a poor fit for her values and lifestyle. Feeling constrained by the routine and morally conflicted about the industry, she ultimately decided to pursue a different path, one she had carefully planned before resigning.

The post has since gone viral, generating widespread discussion about workplace ethics, the pressures faced by employees in high-stakes sectors, and the personal boundaries people draw to navigate their careers.

She wrote;

“This is not the sign to quit your job please, times are hard oooooo Why did I quit my job? Hmmm

1) Banking job is haram, no repackaging or sugar coating. I found out when I was already in it. So I had already had it in mind to leave, I just needed the best time.

2 I am not a routine person, I don’t like to be boxed doing the same thing everyday of my life. I dint get the flexibility I wanted and I couldn’t just continue.

3) I may consider sleeping with a rich man if he’s going to invest in my business heavily, but sleeping with customers just so you can bring in money for the bank sounds weird to me, esp knowing fully well you could still be laid off any day, I can’t do that, and trust me it’s very necessary to bringing big jobs unless you’re lucky which chances are very slim.

4) I was forced to take the job my families and friends, I never really liked it there to begin with.

5) At some point, I wasn’t bringing any value to the organization, even tho many people told me to stay and keep collecting salary, I wasn’t just comfortable wasting my days there unproductive regardless of the money.

6) I already put my mind to what to do when I leave, and I had a strong conviction it was going to work out and it did. Finally, I left when t-pain was active, I was scared and unsure I won’t lie, my mum begged and begged knowing fully well we have nobody and everything it’s just on me, now imagine if business dint work, we go to suffer mehn. But no 1 reason on the list put my mind to rest that nothing bad go happen and if it does, it will just lesson learnt. So please, to those bookmarking, think it through thoroughly. PEACE”.

You are right....though I am a routine person. Spent 21yrs in the industry but willingly left because there is nothing left. Quality of service get reduced daily. I became a misfit and soon felt unhappy, then I left. About sleeping with customers, not all bankers are marketers and if you are, you must bring in the business. What you do with your body is nobody's business.
