Six suspected criminals who were experts in different types of criminal activity in Damaturu and its environment have been apprehended by the Yobe State Police Command.
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists.
He stated that the suspects specialised in shoplifting, theft, criminal trespass, and burglary on both public and private property.
According to him, their arrest came after the police received a series of reports from members of the public, prompting Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed to initiate a stakeout to apprehend the culprits.
“On November 10, 2024, at 2 pm, the police received a distress call from one Mallam Musa Audu of Nayinawa Ward, Damaturu, stating that six tyres and five windscreens of tricycles parked in his vicinity had been stolen by suspected thieves at 5:40 am the previous day.
” A Divisional Police Station swiftly responded, apprehending six syndicate members: Abubakar Ahmed, Hassan Musa, Shayibu Adamu, Ahmed Ismail, Babagana Lawan and Gambo Daiyyabu, 52, of Nayinawa Ward, all in Damaturu,” he added.
He said the suspects were found with 13 tricycle tyres, six windscreens, four crates of empty Coca-Cola bottles, two bicycles, and a toolkit.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and are cooperating with the investigation,” DSP Abdulkarim said.
