A devastating boat accident in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has left at least eight people dead, with more than twenty others still missing.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, as victims traveling in a high-speed speedboat were returning from a burial ceremony. The boat collided with a large log in the creeks, causing it to capsize.
Reports indicate that the victims, who were not wearing life vests and lacked swimming skills, were unable to survive and were swept away by the water. Rescue operations took several hours, and the body of a one-year-old child was discovered floating along the creeks.
As news of the incident spread, passengers who regularly use the route were seen demanding life vests from boat operators before embarking on their trips. The tragic event has sparked concerns over safety standards in the region, with many discussing the need for better precautions to prevent future accidents.
