Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have fueled speculation about a potential political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections following a cordial breakfast meeting at Atiku's residence in Adamawa State.
The gathering, held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, was documented in a video shared by Atiku on his X account. The footage showed the two political heavyweights exchanging warm handshakes and engaging in light-hearted conversation before heading to the dining area. Atiku also introduced Obi to one of his sons during the visit.

Atiku captioned the video. Obi, accompanied by Yunusa Tanko, his former spokesman and Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, and other aides, was in Adamawa to deliver a convocation lecture at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, an institution founded by Atiku.
Reunion Rumors Gain Momentum
The meeting has reignited talks of a possible political realignment between the two leaders ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Atiku and Obi previously collaborated in the 2019 elections when Obi served as Atiku’s running mate on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket. However, they parted ways in 2023, with each pursuing independent presidential bids—a split that analysts believe weakened their chances against the eventual winner, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources suggest that negotiations for an alliance to challenge Tinubu in 2027 have been ongoing, with camps from both sides exploring ways to resolve internal crises within their respective parties. This recent breakfast meeting marks the second public interaction between Atiku and Obi since talks of a possible reunion began.
