The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, has sealed up a supermarket, identified as ‘Blessed Happy Homes’, in Festac area of the state, for allegedly selling expired products to their customers.
Gistmania reports that the state’s Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a video shared via his X page on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the owner of the supermarket, which his identity is yet to be revealed was spotted in the video, engaging with officials of the commission.
The development is coming, following Lagos State government’s efforts to protect consumers from patronising unscrupulous businesses and to ensure products sold in the state meets the safety standard .
Also confirming the development, the General Manger of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, while speaking with LTV’s reporter, expressed displeasure over the rate of business owners, selling outdated items to their customers.
Mr. Afolabi urged consumers to be vigilant and report any suspicious promo sales of expired products especially during this festive Season.
He said: “On the 22nd of November, 2024, the monitoring and enforcement department of LASCOPA, in the course of its monitoring responsibilities, was at the Festac area, they enter a supermarket, called ‘Blessed Happy Home Super Store’, a lot of expired products were found.
“Even baby foods, expired since 2023 were found and displayed for sale, and other consumables.
“They were invited to LASCOPA’s office, they did not come, so we approached the court, and we got an order to seal the place.”
