Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy has condemned the actions of Nigerian elites and the police following the arrest of lawyer and political activist Dele Farotimi.
The arrest, reportedly linked to a defamation complaint filed by senior lawyer Afe Babalola, has sparked conversations about the misuse of law enforcement to suppress outspoken voices.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Wednesday, Charly Boy accused the political elites of exploiting their influence to silence outspoken critics like Farotimi.
He argued that the divide between the powerful and the marginalized continues to widen, with law enforcement being weaponized to protect the interests of the rich.
He also criticized the Nigerian police for involving themselves in what he described as a civil matter, emphasizing that defamation cases should not fall under police jurisdiction.
Charly Boy expressed disappointment in the police, accusing them of allowing themselves to be used as tools of oppression.
He wrote,
