Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi was recently arrested by the Nigerian police in Lagos and transported to Ekiti State.
His arrest is reportedly linked to allegations of criminal libel. This development has sparked significant controversy, with prominent figures like Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana and activist Omoyele Sowore describing the arrest as an abuse of power.
They argue that defamation has been decriminalized in Lagos since 2011, making the charges against Farotimi appear questionable.
Farotimi had previously raised concerns about threats to his safety following disputes over his activism and public statements.
Nigerians are questioning the manner at which he was arrested, terming it as 'abduction'.
in the video, the security operatives were seen harrassing Farotimi's staff and seizing their phones, before taking the activist away.
