A portion of Queen Elizabeth Hall, a female-only hostel for undergraduate students at the University of Ibadan, has been engulfed by fire.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, although the exact cause of the fire is still unknown at the time of this report.
The fire mainly damaged the offices of the Hall Warden and the Secretary, raising concerns about the safety and security of the students living in the facility.
Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, the Director of Public Relations at the university, confirmed the incident, stating that the cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, and investigations are currently underway.
“Yes, it is true. The offices of both the Hall Warden and the Secretary were affected,” she said.
She emphasised that the university is taking the matter seriously and is committed to ensuring the safety of all students.
“University officials are expected to release more information as it becomes available,” she added.
The university community has been urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities as officials work to resolve the situation and assist those affected by the fire.
