Anxiety has gripped Anambra State following the mysterious disappearance of Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, the retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and former Bishop of Nnewi Diocese. The cleric, last seen on Friday, was traveling to Umuchu, a community in the state, accompanied by his driver.

As of Saturday, there has been no communication from the Archbishop or his driver, fueling fears of a possible abduction. However, police authorities have yet to confirm if the pair were kidnapped.

The Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, issued a prayer alert urging the faithful to intercede for the safety and swift return of the retired Archbishop.

In a heartfelt appeal, the Bishop wrote:
“With a deeply burdened heart, we inform you of the distressing news that our revered Father in God, the Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, has been missing since Friday morning. He embarked on a journey to Umuchu with his driver but never reached his destination.

Since then, there has been no communication, and neither he, his driver, nor the vehicle has been found. We plead for fervent prayers, trusting in God’s divine intervention to bring them back safely.”

The statement also confirmed that law enforcement agencies have been alerted and are actively working to locate the missing cleric.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Command, Toochukwu Ikenga, said he was unaware of the incident but promised to investigate the matter.

Anambra State has recently witnessed a rise in criminal activities attributed to unknown gunmen, heightening concerns about safety in the region. The disappearance of the retired Archbishop has added to the growing sense of unease, with the community anxiously awaiting updates on his whereabouts.

Faithful across the state have joined in prayers, hoping for a swift resolution and the safe return of the revered cleric and his driver.
