Mr. Gregory Maduakolam, an Assistant Editor-in-Chief at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Owerri Office, who was abducted on Thursday, has been released after spending several days in captivity.

Maduakolam, who was kidnapped while inspecting an accommodation in Irete, near Owerri, was freed on Saturday night. He informed his colleagues of his release through phone calls made at 11:51 pm.

The journalist revealed that his family paid an undisclosed ransom amount for his release. While in captivity, Maduakolam recounted being physically assaulted by his captors, though he expressed relief at being freed.

Maduakolam, who had recently transferred from NAN's Abuja office to Owerri, shared the details of his abduction. He explained that after inspecting a house with a friend and a house agent, he was ambushed by five men as he attempted to leave on a commercial motorcycle. The kidnappers seized his cellphone and used it to drain his bank account.

The journalist extended his gratitude to God and those who supported him during the ordeal, including his colleagues at NAN. His release has been met with relief and expressions of concern from the media community.
