The Kebbi State Police Command has fatally shot a suspected armed robber and captured another during a gunfight in a forest within the state.
SP Nafiu Abubakar, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the development in a press statement made available to the media on Tuesday.
The statement read, “On December 9, 2024, around 5:00 PM, a combined team of policemen and vigilantes from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Zogirma, were on routine patrol along the Tilli/Durhella forest when they encountered two individuals, Gaboje Alhaji Bello ‘m’ from Sabuwar Tunga village, Bunza LGA, and another individual. Upon being accosted, the suspects opened fire.
“In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Gaboje was killed, while his accomplice, Wantude Alhaji Adure ‘m’ from Ilorin, Kwara State, was apprehended. A locally-made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from them.”
CP Bello Sani, the Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, praised the officers for their bravery in combatting crime and encouraged them to continue their efforts in the fight against illegal activities.
He reiterated the command’s unshakeable commitment to the safety and security of Kebbi State’s peace-loving citizens.
Sani further instructed the Divisional Police Officer to immediately send the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and legal processes.
