President Bola Tinubu has hailed the commissioning of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC) as a milestone achievement and a testament to his administration’s commitment to transformative governance.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration of the facility built by the Nigeria Immigration Service and named in his honour, Tinubu stated that the complex symbolises the administration’s drive to enhance security, streamline business operations, and attract investments.
“The integration of security measures—across air, land, and sea—by the Immigration Service fulfils a vision we have pursued since the inception of this administration,” Tinubu said.
“We promised excellent, innovative solutions, and this state-of-the-art complex is a clear example of that.”
The facility comprises seven core components, including a Data Centre, Command and Control Centre, Visa Approval Centre, ECOWAS Card Centre, Solar Farm, and Passport Centre.
Tinubu emphasised that embracing technological innovation is essential for Nigeria’s progress as a leader in Africa with over 200 million citizens.
“We must embrace technology, change, and knowledge-driven innovation to unlock greater opportunities for our people,” the President remarked.
“A revamped immigration system, as demonstrated here, will yield significant economic benefits, making entry and exit processes seamless.”
Tinubu commended the Ministry of Interior for its transformative work in passport issuance and praised the inter-agency collaboration that facilitated the complex’s completion.
“This project demonstrates what unity and dedication can achieve for the nation,” he said.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, lauded the President for his visionary leadership, which he credited as instrumental in the project’s timely completion within a year.
The Minister noted that the complex would significantly reduce the cost of data archiving across government agencies and promised that visa approvals would now take less than 48 hours.
Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, described the project as a groundbreaking achievement in Africa.
She acknowledged Tinubu’s steadfast support, which helped realise a vision that had been in the pipeline for 18 years.
