The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved a significant milestone by securing the conviction of 12 drug peddlers involved in trafficking activities at the notorious Filin Idi drug den.
This development was disclosed by the command’s spokesman, Sadiq Maigatari, in a statement on Saturday, highlighting the agency’s unwavering fight against drug-related crimes under the leadership of Commander Abubakar Ahmad.
The convicted individuals received three-year prison sentences each, with no option of fines, emphasizing the gravity of their offenses. Among them was Lawan Sani, who faced a separate charge of assaulting an NDLEA officer during a 10-month manhunt. Sani received an additional two-year sentence, bringing his total imprisonment to five years.
“This landmark conviction serves as a deterrent to those exploiting the Filin Idi area for illicit drug operations,” Maigatari stated.
The spokesman commended the agency's efforts to uphold the rule of law and maintain a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and drug trafficking. He further urged the public to support the fight against substance abuse by reporting suspicious activities.
“With collective efforts, we can create a safer and healthier environment for the people of Kano State,” he added.
The NDLEA Kano Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug offenses and fostering a drug-free society in the state.
