Nigerian rapper and singer Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, has spoken candidly about his time in prison, describing it as one of the most challenging periods of his life.

In September 2022, the musician was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre by a Lagos State magistrate court for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a stop-and-search operation. He regained his freedom after spending six days in detention upon meeting his bail conditions.

Opening up during the latest episode of the *Listen* podcast, Ice Prince reflected on his ordeal, calling it a life-altering experience.

“Whatever story you were told is not what happened. The case is over now, so I can talk about it. I spent six days in jail. It’s not a police cell—it’s prison,” he said.

The artist emphasized the harsh realities of prison life, dispelling the notion that public figures receive special treatment behind bars.

“There was no preferential treatment for me. It’s a different world entirely, and I don’t wish it on my worst enemy. I’ve seen celebrities brag about going to police cells, but prison is a whole other experience. There are many innocent people in there. It wasn’t a good experience, but I learned a lot.”

Despite the grim environment, Ice Prince shared that he managed to form bonds with other inmates. “I made friends in there. We hung out and talked. It’s a different institution of higher learning,” he said, referring to the life lessons he gained during his brief incarceration.

Addressing the events that led to his imprisonment, the rapper clarified that his actions were misunderstood. He claimed that the situation arose when he jokingly drove off after a police officer entered his car during the stop-and-search incident.

Ice Prince’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of staying vigilant to avoid situations that could lead to legal troubles.
