
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully apprehended four suspected members of the Ambazonia rebel group in Taraba State. The arrest, which was made on December 18, 2024, in the Takum Local Government Area, follows a series of intelligence-driven operations.
According to a statement released by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the suspects were apprehended at a hotel after a thorough surveillance operation. During initial questioning, the suspects confessed to engaging in arms proliferation and exchanging weapons for cocoa with local Nigerian collaborators. The troops also recovered four mobile phones from the suspects, who are currently in custody undergoing further investigation.
In a separate operation, the Nigerian Army, along with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), uncovered a truck carrying 19 stolen pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). The truck, identified by registration number WKR 66 BB from Taraba State, was intercepted in the Natilde community of Bantaji District, Wukari Local Government Area, based on actionable intelligence.
A follow-up investigation by the troops, in collaboration with the NSCDC in Wukari Division, led to the recovery of 11 additional stolen pipelines, bringing the total number of recovered pipelines to 30. The stolen pipelines were handed over to the NSCDC for further examination and necessary legal action.
The Brigade has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration. They urged citizens to provide timely and reliable information to assist in ongoing security efforts, particularly in safeguarding critical infrastructure in the state.
