Authorities in the Dominican Republic have arrested a Nigerian fugitive, IK Egbor, who was wanted by Haitian officials. Egbor was apprehended by the Human Trafficking and Smuggling Investigation Department of DICRIM while attempting to obtain a travel document under the pretense of having lost his identification.
According to a report by *Dominican Today* on December 24, 2024, Egbor’s arrest uncovered discrepancies in his migration records, which showed no legal entry into the Dominican Republic.
Haitian authorities revealed that Egbor had escaped from prison on March 3, 2024, during a mass breakout. He had been detained in 2022 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport for attempting to smuggle drugs concealed in his abdomen while traveling to Paris.
An international alert and collaborative investigation with the General Directorate of Migration led to Egbor’s identification and subsequent capture.
Dominican officials have confirmed that Egbor will be extradited to Haiti’s Bureau Lutte Trafic Stupéfiant (BLTS/DCPJ) to face judicial proceedings for his alleged crimes.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by regional authorities to combat cross-border crime and ensure justice for fugitives evading prosecution.
