The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 38-year-old suspected kidnapper and armed robber, identified as Pablo Mamu. The suspect, originally from Ughelli in Delta State, is alleged to have carried out criminal operations in communities within Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement released on Thursday, December 26, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, law enforcement officials recovered a cache of items during the operation, including one OFN rifle, a locally-made pistol, a live 9mm round of ammunition, eight live cartridges, and a black Lexus 330 SUV. The vehicle bore two sets of number plates: Abuja registration ABJ 159 LC and Enugu registration JRV 928 SX.
The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by a joint security team comprising police officers and local vigilante operatives, who acted on credible intelligence to locate and raid Mamu's hideout in the early hours of December 23.
“The suspect was arrested, and during a thorough search, the listed exhibits were recovered,” Ikenga stated.
The Commissioner of Police commended the seamless collaboration between security agencies and the vigilance of community members, whose actionable intelligence proved instrumental in the operation. He called for continued cooperation to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, especially during the festive season.
This arrest marks another step in the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements in Anambra State, reinforcing the importance of community-police synergy in combating crime.
