The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong warning against the illegal and fraudulent activities of some officers who exploit the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intimidate victims and perpetrate misconduct.
In a statement released on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi expressed concern over the persistent unprofessional behavior of certain officers, which he said undermines the reputation of the Force.
“Despite repeated warnings and disciplinary actions, some officers continue to engage in shameful acts that erode public trust,” Adejobi said.
He highlighted the disturbing trend of officers invoking the name of the IGP to deter victims from reporting their actions to higher authorities. “The intention is to create the illusion that the IGP is aware and approves of their illegal activities, which intimidates victims into silence,” Adejobi explained.
The Police Force urged the public to resist such intimidation and report any misconduct to senior officers or the appropriate authorities. Contact details for key officials handling complaints were provided:
- DCP Akin Fakorede – Head, IGP Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja: 08184077076
- ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi– Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja: 08037168147
- CSP Taiwo Oyewale – Head, IGP Special Investigation Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja: 08069318238
- SP Sherriff Lawal – ADC to the IGP: 08094712605
Adejobi reassured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to integrity and professionalism, urging citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to ensuring justice and fairness. We encourage public collaboration to maintain the highest standards of accountability and transparency,” he concluded.
The statement serves as a call for vigilance as the Force intensifies efforts to root out misconduct and restore public confidence.
