The Kano State Police Command has arrested 20 individuals during a major clearance operation aimed at curbing thuggery and criminal activities in the Kano metropolis. The operation, which took place between January 1 and 3, 2025, also led to the seizure of dangerous weapons and illicit substances.
A statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that the operation was conducted under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, as part of broader efforts to maintain public safety and security.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 suspects involved in various forms of thuggery, while a number of dangerous items were recovered. These included 19 knives, three pointed irons, a hand saw, a pair of scissors, two clubs, six parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 12 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, and 31 sachets of diazepam.
SP Kiyawa commended the citizens of Kano State for their cooperation during the operation and urged them to continue being vigilant, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious activities promptly.
“We are grateful for the support of the people of Kano State during this operation. The command remains dedicated to the safety and security of all residents, and we encourage continued vigilance,” Kiyawa said.
The statement further highlighted the command’s community-centered approach to policing, noting ongoing programs such as Community Policing Forums, Neighborhood Watch Programs, and Youth Engagement Initiatives. These efforts aim to strengthen collaboration between the police and the public in preventing crime and enhancing community safety.
“We value the feedback we receive from community leaders and residents, which has been instrumental in shaping our policing strategies. Together, we can build a safer Kano,” Kiyawa concluded.
The police command also reiterated its commitment to expanding these initiatives and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
