Operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully neutralized two suspects and rescued four kidnap victims in a high-stakes operation targeting a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate.
According to a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the operation was launched on January 4, 2025, following a distress call received at approximately 12:00 pm. The report indicated that three women and one man had been abducted in Umuokanne, Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area.
Acting on intelligence, the police swiftly traced the criminals’ hideout, where they engaged in a fierce gun battle. Two suspects were neutralized during the confrontation, allowing the police to rescue the hostages unharmed.
The victims were identified as Carolyn Didia, Ego Odu, Apollonia Ezekwe, and Godwin Ezekwe.
During the operation, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle, 21 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a magazine from the suspects.
However, two of the rescued individuals sustained gunshot wounds inflicted by the kidnappers during the exchange of fire. They were immediately transported to Oforola Health Centre for medical treatment.
The Imo State Police Command reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of residents. ASP Okoye emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating crime and called for the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
