The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has rearrested Sodade Sunday Eniola, an ex-convict previously apprehended for drug trafficking, for his alleged involvement in passport racketeering. Eniola, who was arrested by the agency’s Tincan Command in June 2024 and sentenced to four years in prison, had paid a fine of N750,000 as an alternative to serving his term, as ruled by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

In a series of operations conducted in December 2024, NDLEA operatives at the Lagos airport’s export shed uncovered 52 passports from various countries concealed within shoe soles and food items in shipments destined for Canada, Russia, and other countries. These discoveries led to the arrest of four members belonging to three syndicates allegedly involved in the illegal operation.

The suspects, identified as Sodade Sunday Eniola, Ayinde Saheed Awwal, Salaudeen Afeez Ayode, and Sheriff Adebayo Bamigbade, were detained following investigations linking them to the illicit activity. On Monday, December 30, 2024, the NDLEA handed over both the suspects and the exhibits to the Zonal Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service in Lagos for further investigation and potential prosecution.

This development underscores the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring the integrity of Nigeria’s borders. Authorities have assured the public that efforts to dismantle such syndicates will continue unabated.
