Tragedy struck in Sokoto State as two young men, Babangida and Usama, were killed by their kidnappers after their families reportedly paid the ransom demanded by the abductors. The victims, from Isa Local Government Area, were held captive for four weeks before the horrific outcome.
Crisis and conflict journalist, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident on Friday, January 10, revealing that the victims were killed by notorious bandits under the leadership of Bello Turji, following the payment of the ransom. According to Bakatsine, the news broke that the kidnappers had executed the young men, leaving their families and community in mourning.
Usama, a recent nursing graduate, was on his way home to begin a new chapter in his life when he, along with Babangida, was abducted on the Sokoto-Isa road. The two men were returning to their hometown when they were seized by the armed assailants.
The incident highlights the escalating insecurity in Nigeria's Northwest region, where kidnappings have become a major concern for residents. Families of the victims are left devastated by the loss, as kidnappers continue to terrorize communities.
“This tragic event underscores the growing crisis of insecurity in the region. The government must urgently address these issues to protect innocent citizens,” said Bakatsine. “No family should ever have to endure such unbearable loss.”
