Abuja is currently experiencing significant power outages due to the vandalism of critical electricity infrastructure.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that vandals removed approximately 40 meters of 1x500mm² XLPE conductors from two 132kV underground transmission lines near the Millennium Park area.
These lines are essential for delivering bulk electricity to the 132kV Central Area Transmission Substation, which supplies power to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
As a result, over 60% of the city's power supply has been disrupted, affecting key areas including Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of the Presidential Villa.
TCN engineers have been mobilized to assess and repair the damage, with efforts underway to restore power to the affected areas as swiftly as possible. The company has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies to help safeguard the nation's power infrastructure.
