The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a pharmacy in the Garki area of Abuja for selling expired and unregistered drugs, including unsafe "H-Pylori" test kits.
In a statement released on Saturday via X (formerly Twitter), NAFDAC disclosed that the enforcement action followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
During the operation at the pharmacy on Onitsha Crescent, Area 11, officials uncovered expired medical products valued at over ₦7 million. These included test kits that posed serious risks to public health.
According to NAFDAC, attempts by the pharmacy’s staff to obstruct the operation failed as enforcement officers confiscated the expired drugs and sealed the premises.
The statement further revealed that the pharmacy's Managing Director and Superintendent Pharmacist were taken into custody for questioning. “Stringent sanctions will be applied to deter such unethical practices,” NAFDAC assured.
The agency called on the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities involving regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
NAFDAC emphasized its commitment to protecting public health, warning that it would continue to clamp down on businesses involved in illegal or dangerous practices.
