
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of an unconscious man suspected of attempting to vandalize a transformer in Yola, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the police disclosed that the unidentified individual was discovered early in the morning near the transformer located along Ribadu Square. According to the statement, signed by the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect suffered severe injuries after coming into contact with live electrical currents while allegedly trying to steal electrical cables.
“The Adamawa State Police Command has today, 19th January 2025, found a yet-to-be-identified person at an electric transformer around Ribadu Square at approximately 6:00 a.m., where he was attempting to vandalize some electrical cables,” the statement read.
The unconscious man was promptly evacuated to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has urged the public to avoid tampering with electrical facilities and to report suspicious activities near transformers to the authorities. He emphasized that such actions pose significant risks to lives and public infrastructure.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as the police work to ascertain the suspect's identity and the full details of the attempted vandalism.
