Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has confirmed his decision to honor an official invitation from the Nigerian Police Force regarding a viral video he shared, which alleged extortion at a police checkpoint in Lagos.
In a post on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Sowore revealed he had received the invitation and confirmed his attendance for a meeting with the police in Abuja on Monday. “The PoliceNG invitation has arrived. I will be there on Monday as requested,” he wrote, sharing a photo of the official letter.
The video, which gained significant attention online, prompted the Nigerian Police to launch an investigation into the claims, as well as reports of a “manhunt” allegedly initiated for Sowore.
The letter, sent by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigerian Police, detailed the charges against Sowore, including allegations of resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and more.
The invitation, dated for Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10 a.m., urged Sowore to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the FID Complex in Abuja. The letter also clarified that Sowore has the right to bring his legal counsel to the meeting.
