The Katsina State Police Command has rescued 13 kidnapped victims following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Maibakko village in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
The assailants, who struck in the early hours of Thursday, killed two residents, injured one, and abducted an unspecified number of others before security operatives engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the development in a statement made available to newsmen late Thursday.
Sadiq said, “On February 6th, 2025, at about 0143 hrs, our operatives received a distress call at Sabuwa Divisional Police Headquarters that a group of suspected bandits armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles, shooting sporadically, attacked Maibakko village, Sabuwa LGA, kidnapping residents.”
He explained that police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, leading to a fierce gunfight with the bandits.
“The operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel, which led to the foiling of the kidnap attempt and the successful rescue of 13 victims. Unfortunately, the bandits shot and killed two persons and injured one,” he added.
Sadiq assured that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, vowing that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the unhurt rescue of the other victims and to bring those responsible to justice,” he stated.
The rescued victims, according to the police, have been reunited with their families, while security operatives continue their search for the remaining abducted person.
