The Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State has indefinitely suspended its Caretaker Chairman, Hilda Dokubo, following multiple allegations of misconduct, extortion, and negligence.
Dokubo’s suspension was initiated by her ward, Ward 3 of the Asari-Toru Local Government Area (ASALGA), after several petitions accused her of financial irregularities and actions detrimental to the party’s interests.
A suspension letter dated February 2, 2025, and obtained by *DAILY POST*, was signed by Ward 3 party officials, including Chairman O. C. Princewill, Vice Chairman Pastor Lucky Mac-Jaja Amachree, Secretary Florence Solomon, and Women Leader Iwowari George. The letter, addressed to the National Chairman of the Labour Party, called for an urgent investigation into her activities.
Among the allegations leveled against Dokubo is the unlawful inflation of fees for screening and nomination forms during the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) local government elections. Councillorship aspirants were reportedly charged ₦8,000 instead of ₦5,000, while chairmanship hopefuls paid ₦15,000 instead of ₦10,000, with the extra fees labeled as a “service charge.”
She is also accused of compromising the party’s position during her 2023 House of Representatives campaign by negotiating party positions and attempting to convince other candidates to step down. Additionally, she allegedly failed to account for party funds and adopted a “divide and rule” leadership style that stalled party operations in the state.
According to the statement, Dokubo repeatedly ignored invitations to address the allegations, prompting the party to suspend her from all activities indefinitely, pending further investigations.
Reacting to the suspension, Dokubo dismissed the claims, stating, “There was no suspension; some people were just trying their luck.”
