A middle-aged man, popularly known as ‘Daddy Ese,’ has lost his life after a speeding truck crushed him along Ondo Road in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The fatal accident occurred at Opa Junction, near the Best Solution Polytechnic axis, when the truck rammed into a commercial motorcycle carrying the deceased. The rider, whose identity remains unknown, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the late ‘Daddy Ese’ was a furniture trader at the plank market on Agagu Road, Akure. They claimed the truck was moving at an excessive speed before colliding with the motorcycle.
Following the crash, the truck driver reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was chased down and stopped by road users and military personnel.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Commercial Motorcyclists, Adebowale branch, Monday Desmond, called on the government to dualize the road, citing its history of fatal accidents.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly on narrow roads. He warned that reckless drivers would be held accountable for endangering lives.
The tragic accident has once again raised concerns about road safety in the state, with many residents demanding urgent interventions to prevent further loss of lives.
