
The Kebbi State Government has launched an initiative to sponsor the mass wedding of 600 individuals, comprising 300 grooms and 300 brides.
The government, will cover a dowry payment of ₦180,000 per couple, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the couples’ union.
As stated on Sunday by Suleman Argungu, Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, the initiative aims to support vulnerable members of society, including orphans, widows, and people with special needs.
The screening process will involve pre-marital health checks and an assessment of the groom’s employment or trade status to ensure he can provide for his wife.
Argungu emphasized that the initiative is open to individuals from all tribes and religious backgrounds, promoting social inclusion and cohesion.
“The administration of Gov. Idris is going to provide N180,000 as dowry for each bride from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
“Other additional items will be provided such as room furniture and foodstuf,fs to all the couples to consolidate their marital relationship.
“The wedding will be solemnized after wide consultations with Islamic scholars in consonance with the practice of the Noble Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW),” Argungu said.
